Installation with the Quick-Grip System
Installation and/or removal of the Atlantis Rooftop Cargo Box from your rack is easy via Thule's patented Quick-Grip mounting system. This tool-free mounting system allows you to attach your rooftop box to virtually any roof rack in less than 5 minutes. The Quick-Grip system utilizes a two-armed pincer mechanism controlled by a simple knob control. The Atlantis contains four of these knobs embedded within the bottom of the box, each set along two internal tracks that can be moved forward or back along these tracks to accommodate your existing rack crossbar configuration. As a knob is turned, the pincers are released down and inward from the bottom the cargo box. These clamp around crossbars providing fast, maximized holding power that you can count on.
Simple Use, Stowage and Security
Once Thule's Atlantis Rooftop Cargo Box is installed it is ultra easy to use. Secure, slip-free stowage of gear is provided via two tie down straps, included with the cargo box, that connect to the inner edges of the Quick-Grip units and cinch down tightly. In addition, easy access to gear is guaranteed with Thule's dual-side opening system built into the lid of Atlantis series models that allows the lid to be opened from either lengthwise side of the box. This system allows for one-handed usage, with the lid staying in place when opened. Finally, the Atlantis Rooftop Cargo Box provides for maximum and convenient security of your gear via an oversized lock with an ergonomic knob that is easy to grasp and turn, even while wearing gloves. A duplicate key is included with each unit, and new lock cores and lock upgrades can be added to existing units as the need arises.

Secure 2-bike Hitch Mount Carrying Capacity
A hitch mount rack, the T2 attaches to your vehicle's pre-installed hitch receiver located below the rear bumper. The two models available in Thule's T2 product line are design for use with different sized receivers - the 916XTR T2 working with 2-inch receivers and the 917XTR T2 with 1¼-inch receivers. Both contain two heavy-duty tubes, each with two molded wheel trays that cradle and support the weight of bikes from below via its two wheels. Bike tray assemblies accommodate bikes from 20 to 29-inch wheel diameters and with up to 3-inch wide tires. Bike trays work in conjunction with wheel straps that hold bikes to the wheel trays and two independent SecureHook support arms -- one for each bike -- that ratchet down on the top of mounted front bike tires, holding the whole bike securely in place without any contact with the frame. When not in use these two arms fold down inline with the bike trays. This combination of wheel trays secured at hitch receiver level and SecureHook arms allows for fast loading and unloading of bikes with minimal lifting for ultimate convenience.
The Thule T2 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack also protects your mounted bikes from thieves with its multi-tiered locking system consisting of an integrated cable lock that secures bikes to the carrier without making frame contact, and the Snug-Tite lock that secures the rack to your vehicle at the receiver hitch. In addition, the unique Snug-Tite lock does double duty for owners by virtually eliminating hitch carrier movement.
Leaning and Folding Hitch Switch Functionality
The T2 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack product line also contains unique folding and leaning functionality via its Hitch Switch feature. Based on a pin-based mechanism located at the base of the unit, this feature allows for maximum flexibility as users can fold the bike trays completely up when not in use and lock them into place. This allows for ease of driving and parking with the carrier remaining mounted. This same feature also makes it possible for bike trays to be temporarily angled back towards the rear of the vehicle and automatically held in place when not driving, allowing for rear vehicle access.
Easily Upgradable To a 4-Bike Carrier
Thule's T2 2-Bike Platform Hitch Rack (Thule 916XTR T2 only) can also conveniently and economically be upgraded to a 4-bike carrier with the additional purchase of the Thule 918XTR T2 2-Bike (2-inch hitch receiver) add-on. This accessory connects via the same sized 2-inch hitch receiver doubling capacity without limiting functionality, including Hitch Switch folding and leaning functionality.
